Our Ministries

Teaching

We believe that the pattern established in the church in Jerusalem under the direction of the Apostles should be normative for our congregation today – ‘they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine,’ (Acts.2:42a). Therefore, our elders seek to provide sound instruction in the Word of God for the entire congregation in various settings:

Preaching – our pastors ordinarily preach consecutive expository sermons during our Lord’s Day worship service. Pastor Cane is our primary preacher, though Pastor Caswell and other men in the congregation also minister to us in this way.

Bible Classes – most Sundays the adults, teens and children meet after our fellowship lunch to study the Scriptures in their various classes. For more information about BBC’s children’s ministry see our brochure ‘Three Important Questions’.

School of Theology – an in-house training program designed to provide a forum for Biblical instruction, spiritual nurture and ministry development for BBC men.

Conferences

In addition to regular Bible study and discussion groups, BBC hosts several conferences for the benefit of other individual Christians and churches.

Ladies’ Conference – often we welcome a guest preacher to address some relevant subject for Christian ladies on a Saturday early in the year (previous sermons available on the sermon page).

Young Adults Conference (YAC) – over the Easter long weekend young adults from BBC and our sister churches enjoy several days of Biblical instruction, fellowship and activities (previous sermons available on the sermon page).

Family Conference – in conjunction with our sister churches and like-minded brethren, we host a ‘combined church camp’ over a weekend (usually in winter) at a Conference Centre where we bring-in a proven man of God to preach to God’s Word (previous sermons available on our sermon page). This is one of the highlights of our year!

Family Conf 2015

Reformation Service – annually, on a Sunday near Reformation Day (31 October) BBC hosts a Reformation Service. At this event we welcome many fellow believers to this special opportunity of worship, instruction in the doctrines of grace and Christian fellowship as we remember a significant day in the history of Christ’s church.

Library

The Lord has graciously provided many sound Christian books for the BBC congregation to borrow. This is a significant resource for the hungry Christian. The elders encourage the reading of sound Christian literature to stimulate our spiritual growth.

Youth

As a congregation we are blessed to have lots of kids – and we love each one of them. So what do we have for them? Parents (novel concept)! God’s plan for youth ministry is church ministry and parents. But as an aid to parents we have a Bible Class for children most Sundays after our fellowship lunch. For more information about BBC’s children’s ministry see our brochure ‘Three Important Questions’.

Evangelism / Missions

We are eager to share the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ with our friends next door, but we also want to see the gospel spread to other nations (Matthew 28:18-20).

Personal Witnessing – we seek to encourage one another to fulfill the Great Commission by evangelising in our individual lives. BBC makes available Bibles and numerous gospel tracts, which are circulated privately and used in our personal witnessing.

Gospel Service – on the second Sunday afternoon we host a Gospel Service, thus providing an opportunity for the congregation to bring their unconverted family and friends under the sound of a simple evangelistic sermon.

RI – (Religious Instruction, formally known as Religious Education RE) – one of our deacons co-ordinates the teaching of the Scriptures in numerous local public primary schools. A number of our members go each week into some of these classrooms to teach the Scriptures for a thirty-minute lesson. This is an excellent gospel opportunity.

Literature Stall – from time to time we have opportunity to provide a literature stall in local markets and community events, where we give away Bibles and gospel literature and seek to engage in gospel conversations with local residents.

Door-Knocking – from time to time several BBC members engage in door-to-door evangelism.

Foreign Missions – in conjunction with our sister church (Samford Baptist Church) and in goa-familypartnership with Cubao Reformed Baptist Church, Manila, Philippines, we fully support a pastor who is involved in a church-planting ministry (Grace Reformed Christian Church) in a poor rural community in Camarines Sur, Philippines. We also maintain an active interest in a work in Pakistan. Pastor Cane has also been sent to teach a unit in the Copperbelt Ministerial College, Zambia.

Benevolence

Benevolent Box – seeking to be sensitive to Paul’s words, ‘as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith,’ (Gal.6:10) we periodically ship a box of clothes and other items to needy families in contact with our sister churches in the Philippines.

Berean Benevolent Bears – a loose knit fellowship of BBC ladies seek to demonstrate the love of Christ in our local area by the knitting of teddy bears (Berean Benevolent Bears) for distribution in the Children’s Wards of two local hospitals, along with a BBC-produced Bible Colouring Book.
